Religious Studies and Spiritual Formation at OLHR School are rooted in our core belief in the importance of the education of the whole child — mind, body, and spirit. At every grade level, our curriculum carefully follows the framework and standards of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the four major themes of Catholic religious education: Scripture & Christian Life, Sacraments & Worship, Morality & Social Justice, and Christian Faith & Practice.
The spiritual journey begins in Pre-School, with introduction of key concepts and values. In the third grade, students prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion. Students in all grades have the opportunity to participate in school-wide monthly Masses, taking turns in the preparation of the readings and rituals of these Masses. Students learn about Christian values daily through regular prayer, religion classes, and an integration of the School Wide Learning Expectations and Catholic Social Teachings throughout the curriculum. Prayer services are held throughout the year for special liturgical seasons and special feast days.
All students participate in weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to help foster their devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
