The youngest children of OLHR are engaged in many meaningful activities through reading and math readiness, science exploration, music, art, dramatic play, fine and gross motor development. We believe that children learn to interact with each other and the world through play based explorations. Through this type of play, they discover their environment, experience cause and effect relationships, and explore their world. It is our goal to provide a variety of exciting and stimulating activities each day, so that young children can develop socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually to the very best of their ability.
Our fundamental objective is to provide children with a solid education in a caring environment, which nurtures Christian values by having the Eucharist as the center of our lives. Our curriculum includes: Language Arts: Houghton Mifflin’s; Alphafriends; Handwriting without Tears (Pre-K); Houghton Mifflin’s Mathematics; Seeds (Religion); Science; Music and Movement: Computer (only Pre-K); Physical Education.
OLHR offers an After School Program daily from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater East Valley for grades K through 8. The After School Program includes a healthy after-school snack, homework hour, tutoring assistance, indoor and outdoor recreation, supervised technology laboratory activities and interest-based activity clubs. Students registered for OLHR School’s After School program become members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater East Valley and may attend Boys & Girls Clubs programming during school vacations and during the summer.
School leadership at OLHR School encourages the education and growth of Catholic values and supports the development of the whole person. Student government, therefore, exists to promote good citizenship, encourage a high standard of scholarship, arouse good spirit, demonstrate the practical application of democracy, and advance the welfare of the school and its members in every possible manner.
Students participate in an election process and are chosen by the student body to serve as student leaders. They meet weekly with a teacher moderator to plan and oversee activities such as school governance, spirit and community building, religious celebrations, fundraising, as well as school ambassadorship and community outreach.
OLHR offers sports and athletic activities for both boys and girls. We encourage all students to join a team sport and pursue their personal best. We have teacher-coaches who mentor students in good sportsmanship, athletic techniques, and how to play team and individual sports. OLHR School offers a wonderful P. E. program during class time as well as after-school sports for interested students. Boys can participate in flag football, basketball, and volleyball. Girls can choose volleyball, basketball, or softball.
The Saint Sebastian Sports Project (SSSP) provides Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School with resources critical to building quality team sports programs. In addition, SSSP holds clinics to enhance coaching skills and hosts flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer tournaments. To expose students to college opportunities, SSSP has partnered with Loyola Marymount University to sponsor fun-packed sports days. Finally, in 2017, SSSP hosted its first “Leadership Academy” to help prepare outstanding eighth-grade scholar-athletes for the transition to high school. SSSP is changing lives, one game at a time.

The art and music programs at OLHR School center on the individual child. Experiences in art and music allow children to express themselves successfully while developing skills and concepts that are the foundation of arts education. We believe that art and music assist in developing and using higher-level critical and creative thinking skills, helping students to develop and use a unique form of communication and self-expression. Art and music also provide another way for students to experience their own and other cultures. Most importantly, it increases learning in all areas of the curriculum, builds self-esteem, encourages self-reliance, and enhances lifelong learning. Yearly, students participate in Art Walk, a showcase of their talents to parents and the community.
Having good computer skills is essential to succeeding in today’s academic environment, which is why we give students the opportunity to learn those skills at our school. OLHR offers computer classes for all K-8 students in the Computer Lab with instruction by our part-time computer technology teacher. In addition, the school has internet access in each classroom, providing students the ability to utilize technology across the curriculum.
